Computational Hydraulics Int. (CHI) was established in 1978 for the development of hydraulic and hydrologic
software, technology transfer through seminars and workshops, conference
organization, the production of textbooks and conference proceedings, and
professional engineering consulting, exclusively to consultants.
CHI has been particularly involved with the SWMM model from its inception in the
1970's; organizing SWMM seminars and User Group conferences, developing the first PC
version of the program, PCSWMM3, and distributing it widely in Canada, the USA and
overseas. German and Spanish versions of PCSWMM3 were also developed by local consultants
working in collaboration with CHI. PCSWMM3 in turn formed the basis of the USEPA SWMM4.
CHI has a close liaison with Oregon State University (Wayne Huber), and with Willing and
Partners in Australia who developed XPSWMM. In 1992 CHI developed PCSWMM4, a user-friendly
shell for SWMM4, and in October 1994 this was converted to a Windows platform, with tools
for sensitivity, calibration and error analysis. CHI has by far the longest history of continual support for user-friendly shells for the full unabridged SWMM engines and remains firmly committed in the foreseeable future to further SWMM development, through in-house custom adaptation and extension of the program for specific applications.
CHI has given over 60 professional workshops, of two or more days each, on SWMM and other models including
in-house and publicly advertised seminars for audiences normally ranging
from 30 to 80 professional and academic engineers.
CHI has organized many international conferences and edited a similar number of conference proceedings.
