On this page you can find answers to frequently asked questions about
PCSWMM 2006. If you have any questions not covered here, please
contact
us.
There is also a detailed PCSWMM 2006 GIS FAQ
available for information on the included schematic and plan view editing
component of PCSWMM 2006.
Is there any size limit to the models that PCSWMM 2006 can handle (i.e.
any maximum number of elements)?
There is no size limit imposed by PCSWMM 2006. There are array limits in
the SWMM4 engine that depend on the version of SWMM you use. For
example, SWMM4.4h has a maximum of 4000 Extran
conduits, and 3000 Runoff subcatchments per data file. For larger
models, PCSWMM 2006 can easily divide model elements into multiple data files
(at locations where there are no backwater effects). Alternatively,
PCSWMM 2006 can use an in-house or third-party version of the SWMM engine
recompiled with larger array limits.
Why is PCSWMM 2006 so inexpensive compared to competing products?
Please don't be taken in by high prices. Differences between the available
modeling environments exist only in their areas of emphasis. Our affordable
prices, experience in the field (developing and supporting storm water
modeling software since 1974) and reputation for providing quality,
state-of-the-art modeling software and excellent user-support, has created a
large user-base and demand. This allows us to support a full-time staff of
water resource engineers and software developers to design, implement and
support the PCSWMM 2006 software packages. It works for us and should work for
you (p.s. - spend some of the savings on a fast, dedicated workstation and
we bet you'll save time and improve the end result!).
Can I graphically design my model in a WYSIWYG-type environment (i.e.
add/edit elements in a graphical plan view editor)?
Yes, you can with the built-in GIS component. PCSWMM 2006 supports
multiple schematic and "real world" views of your model and switching
back and forth between these views is fast. Please see the
PCSWMM 2006 GIS pages for more information.
Can I use my existing SWMM data files with PCSWMM 2006?
Absolutely, the PCSWMM 2006 input data file format is standard SWMM. Using
the PCSWMM 2006 Object Manager, you can simply open the folder in which your
existing files are located, and they will be automatically recognized
and available as PCSWMM 2006 objects. When using the PCSWMM 2006 GIS component,
element data can be quickly imported from existing Runoff, Transport, Extran and SWMM5 input data files.
Which version of SWMM is supplied with PCSWMM 2006?
Nine versions of SWMM4 are included in the PCSWMM 2006 installation: the official US
EPA SWMM4.3, the subsequent Oregon State University (OSU) release SWMM4.31,
as well various versions of SWMM4.4, including the most recent OSU release,
SWMM4.4h. PCSWMM 2006 sets the SWMM4 engine to SWMM4.4h by default, however any of the included SWMM engines (as well as other available versions) can be quickly and easily
"hot-swapped". Various versions of the SWMM engine and other supporting
documentation (including source code) can be
downloaded from CHI's website, and information on
version updates are available.
Do I need an external GIS program or GIS data to utilize the built-in GIS
functionality of PCSWMM 2006?
No, you do not need any other product or data. The GIS component of
PCSWMM 2006 is a fully functional, stand-alone GIS, capable of graphically
drawing and displaying your model in both schematic and "real world" views.
You can even overlay your model data over digital images of your catchment
area and/or AutoCAD drawings and GIS layers. However, the GIS component does
provide the ability to integrate with virtually all GIS software and data on
the market today. For more information on the GIS component, please refer to
the PCSWMM 2006 GIS information pages and the
PCSWMM 2006 GIS FAQ page.
