PCSWMM DSS for SWMM4.4

Getting Started

Pre-sales Information

Welcome to the PCSWMM Getting Started section. Here we have tutorials on various aspects of PCSWMM to help you get up and running as quickly as possible.

Getting Started Chapters

The User's Guide to SWMM (10th Ed.) contains three simple exercises that guide you through the process of creating a model, running the simulation and visualizing the results. They serve as a first step for those new to PCSWMM and/or SWMM modeling. For users with earlier versions of the User's Guide to SWMM, we have presented below the 10th edition versions of these chapters that reflect the user-interface changes in PCSWMM 2005 (in Adobe Acrobat PDF documents).

Getting Started with the PCSWMM Runoff Module (pdf file)

Chapter 6 (as it appears in the 10th edition of the User's Guide to SWMM).

Getting Started with the PCSWMM Extran Module (pdf file)

Chapter 13 (as it appears in the 10th edition of the User's Guide to SWMM).

Getting Started with the PCSWMM Transport Module (pdf file)

Chapter 11 (as it appears in the 10th edition of the User's Guide to SWMM).

Getting Started Video Tutorials

The videos available below are an efficient method for novice users to get up and running quickly with the various tools of PCSWMM. You need to have the Macromedia Flash player and the MP3 audio codec installed to see and hear these video tutorials. Ed note: New videos will be posted ASAP - thanks for your patience.

GIS database

Explores the new SWMM layer database format and methods for importing older PCSWMM 2002 data

Natural channels in SWMM4 Extran

Illustrates the use of the Transect Browser for adding, editing and assigning natural channels to Extran layer conduits

Importing entities and attributes to a SWMM layer

Illustrates the use of the Import Wizard for importing entities and attributes from an external data source (i.e. ArcView Shape file)

Computing and visualizing objective functions in GIS

Illustrates one potential use of the objective function calculations in PCSWMM and how to visualize these functions in the GIS using the Legends feature

Other sources of help for getting started with PCSWMM 2004

The new User's Guide to SWMM has ten example problems (section 12.6 - pg 436) illustrating the use of the Extran to solve situations involving conduits, weirs, orifices, pumps, storage ponds and natural channels. We have provided working model files for these examples in the Example Set #3 project folder provided with PCSWMM 2004. There are a number of other example project folders (Example Set #1 - 9) installed with PCSWMM which you can explore. Of course, the best method for learning both PCSWMM and the US EPA SWMM engine are the regularly scheduled CHI workshops. If there is not one currently scheduled in your area, or within your time frame, please contact us for details on our customizable in-house workshops.
